Stirred tank reactors are used for chemical synthesis, extraction, dissolution, crystallisation, distillation and bio processes. A key function of these vessels is the addition and removal of heat. Coflux reactors use a different type heating/cooling jacket with cross flow channels and a variable area valve. This design offers the following benefits:

Coflux reactor uses a multi element cross flow jacket with a valve for controlling heat transfer area. These features give them superior control and process monitoring capabilities. Coflux reactors can deliver improve quality, yield, cycle time and energy efficiency:
Chemical Synthesis - Coflux reactors monitor rate of reaction and yield from the heat evolved or absorbed. This can be used for controlling reactant addition and end point detection. Crystallisation - From the power and enthalpy data, Coflux reactors can monitor and control nucleation and crystal growth. Heating and cooling - Information on the process side wall temperature is the factor which determines maximum heating or cooling power. The Coflux reactor monitors this in real time from heat balance and temperature data. This allows the user to operate at more extreme jacket temperatures without damaging the product. This delivers faster heating and cooling or distillation/evaporation. Bio processes - Power data allows the user to monitor changes in the cell population. Enthalpy data can be used for monitoring bio mass. Power data can also be used during sterilisation for optimising sterilisation time and detecting cold spots.
